What is the Pupil Premium?
The pupil premium is additional funding for schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers. Disadvantaged pupils are children who are registered for free school meals (FSM), children who have been registered as FSM within the last 6 years (Ever 6 FSM), children of service families and those who have been in continuous care for six months or more.
How should the Pupil premium be used?
“Schools, head teachers and teachers will decide how to use the Pupil Premium allocation, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.”
